Team Leader Information from Thom Perkins, Chief of
Competition
Welcome to the 2008 J2 Eastern Championships and National
Invitational competition and the Village of Jackson. Here is some important
information that you should keep in mind during the event:
- Friday 3/7/08 Team Leader meeting at 1:00 p.m. sharp
in the Eagle Mtn Room at the Eagle Mtn House. See
Map. Parking is very limited and teams not staying at the Eagle will be
issued two parking passes for their team vehicles.
- Welcoming Packets, Tee Shirts, Pins, Start orders, and
Bibs will be distributed at the meeting.
- All others must park in the village and either ski
(2.5 km) walk (¾ mile) or take the shuttle to the competition site.
- For your parent/spectators: Cheering Bells and
Souvenir pins are available for sale at the Touring Center and at a table in
the stadium area.
- There will be ski equipment / waxing equipment
shuttles to the stadium on Friday afternoon and Sunday after the relays.
The drop-off access point is at the Eagle Mtn House.
- Start Lists will be available in the Race Secretariat
office (in the Eagle Mountain Room at the Eagle Mtn House, online and posted
on the official bulletin board.
- The official bulletin board is located outside the
waxing tent. Race results will be posted on this bulletin board after each
race. There will be a computer monitor outside the timing trailer showing
instantaneous un-official results. This monitor is visible for coaches,
athletes and spectators.
- An 85000 watt generator will be running at the stadium
wax tent for waxing irons. This should provide all the power you need.
There will be heat and lights in the waxing tent.
- Skiing on the courses on in the direction of travel
ONLY!
- NENSA has an open trail policy, therefore
unintentional interference caused by spectators or tourists will not be a
cause for protest.
- Sunday Morning: During the relay, the southern bridge
for the classic leg is narrow. No tracking on the bridge or its ramp
approach after the warning sign.
- Sunday morning: Access to the stadium via the big
bridge only by foot travel. No skiing down the hill and across the big
bridge. By Sunday morning, you’ll know exactly where we mean.
- Pacing – 30 meters is the limit of contact with your
athletes. This will be monitored and violations will have consequences.
- Technique control checkers will be in place during the
competition.
- Wax testing on the competition trails only in the
direction of travel. A wax testing area for timing lights will be available
adjacent to the stadium. No timing lights on the course.
- Saturday 5 k classic race will have 4 tracks dropping
to 2 tracks at 600 meters leading from the stadium to the Christmas Farm
Trail. The course from the entrance of the Christmas Farm Trail to the exit
of the Wave will have single best line track.
- Skiers will be lined up in waves of 5 for the first
three competitions. This applies to the 5 k Classic, 5 k Free and the
Classic Sprint

- We will be pre-staging skiers for the start. Make
sure that your skiers are in the starting pen in plenty of time.
- Competitors arriving late at the start line will
comply with the competition rules. They should report to the Assist.
Starter in the late start lane. It will be clearly marked.

Eagle Mountain House competition area:
From the Jackson Ski Touring Center – take a right out of
the parking lot towards the village. Take the left on 16B at the Jackson
Community Church. Eagle Mtn House is < 1 mile on the left. You will see the
stadium and competition trails on your right as you approach.
Direction by skiing from the Jackson Ski Touring Center:
Start across the road from the touring center. Follow any
track across the field. Enter the Yodel Trail. This will bring you to the
Eagle Mtn Fields and our competition trails. Distance 1.7 km. to the start of
the competition trails – the stadium is across the river and in view of the end
of the Yodel Trail.

From the Eagle Mtn House - Take a left out of the parking
lot, follow route 16B taking care to turn right at the first major road staying
on Rte 16B. This will bring you to Whitney’s Inn and Black Mountain Ski Area.
Bear straight on Dundee Road for 300 feet. Left into the Ski Area Parking Lot.
The base lodge will be on your right. Total distance c. 2 miles
From the Jackson Ski Touring Center: Take a right out of
the parking lot towards the center of the village. Cross the stone bridge by
the Community Church. Left onto Rte 16B in front of the Grammar School. Keep
on Rte 16B to Black Mountain Ski Area. Bear straight on Dundee Road for 300
feet. Left into the Ski Area Parking Lot. The base lodge will be on your
right. Total distance c. 2.5 miles
