National Cross-Country Ski Championships

The mountain village of Jackson, N.H., and the Jackson Ski Touring Foundation are pleased to host theJackson 2000 USSA Junior Olympic Cross-Country Championships. More importantly, we would like to extend an invitation for you to participate in this event with us and become a part of the long skiing tradition in the Mt. Washington Valley.

The Championships will begin on Sunday, March 5, 2000, with team arrivals and the beginning of practice sessions. The event will conclude with an exciting banquet on Saturday, March 11. For complete schedule information, refer to the enclosed Master Event Schedule. The competition races will be held within the confines of the town of Jackson, primarily using the International Competition Race Course on the Eagle Mountain portion of the Jackson Ski Touring System, and practice areas will be available throughout the system. (See enclosed course maps for details.) Opening ceremonies, complete with fireworks, are planned for the central village area at the Jackson Ski Touring Center Hospitality Building and on the nearby grounds.

For lodging, the Jackson 2000 Junior Olympics Headquarters Hotel is the Eagle Mountain House (800-966-5779),located adjacent to the race course. They have committed to two blocks of rooms to accommodate two teams (first come, first served). Other lodging establishments committed to space are listed as follows:

Meal plans will vary with the individual property. Some do not have eating facilities on the premises, but they have made arrangements with nearby restaurants to accommodate the team dining requirements.

For teams who would like to consider condos for their lodging needs, we suggest contacting the Wentworth Resort (800-637-0013), the Seasons Condominium Resort (800-332-6636) or Luxury Mountain Getaways (800-472-5207). Specific arrangements have not been made with these properties, however, they are aware of the event and your needs.

Jackson is a four season resort town with many hotels, motels and B&Bs and a long history of hospitality. Enclosed you will find the local Jackson Chamber of Commerce brochure, as well as the Mt. Washington Valley guide. These have been included to give you a feel for the area, as well as for the many amenities available to you. All properties listed above are big enough to handle a full team, although room configurations and amenities will vary from property to property. In addition to Jackson Village, the town of North Conway is only 15 minutes away and can provide an abundance of accommodations. Parents and spectators can call the Jackson Chamber of Commerce at 800-866-3334 or the Mt. Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce at 800-367-3364 for all your lodging requirements.

Entries for the Jackson 2000 Junior Olympics must be received ten (10) days prior to the start of competition. The entry fee for the competition is $135 per skier and must accompany their entry. This fee will cover the skier’s participation in the event, a memento of the Junior Olympics, admission to the opening reception, awards ceremony, final banquet and other social events. Each division with 30 or more skier entries will receive two extra banquet tickets for coaches or officials. Additional tickets for parents, friends or additional coaches will be available for sale, depending on the number of entrants. These tickets will be available only after the entries are complete.
